Some of My Favourite Goals

by Adrian

In no particular order! Not all are classic football goals in the true sense but they bring back some happy memories.

FA Cup Final – 1975
The first live match I remember on TV and when I started supporting West Ham.

World Cup – 1990
Against Belgium. Fantastic finish and his face after was just brilliant.

The Header against Arsenal!

The Euros – 1996
Against Scotland and really shows his class.

World Cup – 1990
Because it mattered and it shows on his face. We won’t discuss the penalties; move on… ;-)

FA Cup Semi-Final – 1992
My home town club. A tense day but Pompey took the lead, if only for a brief moment against Liverpool. Bruce Grobbelaar was in goal that day. I’m sure that’s another of those huge gaps he regrets leaving. :-)

The Euros – 1996
England’s third in a memorable 4-1 victory over Holland. The other goals are included for good measure!

World Cup – 1998
Probably the best goal I’ve ever seen from a truly class player.

For Hull City at Wembley
A strange reason for selecting this one. It reminds me of my best ever goal, scored in a cup match when in the Army. Unfortunately, there were no TV cameras that day :-(

So, there you have it! I’m bound to have forgotten a classic so may well update as I think of more.

Unfortunately, some of my original selections have been blocked by FIFA on copyright grounds. Money is at the root of everything, particularly where FIFA are concerned.

Those that have been blocked are Michael Owen’s fantastic goal against Argentina (World Cup – 1998) and Archie Gemmill for Scotland (World Cup – 1978) and his brilliant solo effort against Holland.
