Which Bookmarking Service To Use?

by Adrian

As with many users of the Delicious bookmarking service, I received my email from Yahoo! last week notifying me of their ‘excitement’ about the fact that they had sold Delicious to the founders of YouTube.

AVOS is the company that have acquired Delicious and I have to confess that I know nothing at all about them. Having said that, I still had to agree to their terms and conditions in order to move my Delicious bookmarks to my new account. What happens if you don’t agree? Well, you lose access to your bookmarks at some point in July 2011.

I’ve agreed to these Ts & Cs and didn’t really see anything contentious in them. My concern would be more to do with what is going to happen with my bookmarks in terms of what AVOS plan on doing with Delicious having made the move to acquire it from Yahoo!

I’m sure all will be fine but, as a contingency, I’ve imported my bookmarks in to my ‘once dormant’ Diigo account. Diigo have a premium account. I may well upgrade based on what AVOS do with Delicious but will hold firm for the moment.

I’d also read some good things about Pinboard which carries the tagline ‘Social bookmarking for introverts‘. Seems apt! With this service, you need to pay a nominal fee to join. They say this is to keep spammers out. I also paid for the upgrade to make use of the professional archival service.

As with Diigo, I was easily able to import my Delicious bookmarks in to Pinboard so I’m comfortable that I have plenty of options.

So, that’s the bookmarking services I use. What about you? If Delicious doesn’t develop the way you’d like, what other services have you found to keep your bookmarks safe?
